Professional success squared

Twin brothers David and Tobias Stangel were born in Berlin and moved with their family to Oranienburg shortly thereafter. Today, their commute to work takes just ten minutes. After completing their vocational training as machine and plant operators at ORAFOL, they both pursued a part-time degree in industrial engineering with a focus on logistics and supply chain management. Now, each of them holds responsibility as an operations manager in a different area of ORAFOL’s production. We spoke with them about the experiences that shaped their journey and what they value most about their work. One thing is clear from the start: the similarities go beyond appearances.

David Stangel

What is your job at ORAFOL?

As Operations Manager Converting, I ensure that our production processes run smoothly, efficiently, and on schedule. I plan and manage daily operations, coordinate processes between different departments such as sales, purchasing, logistics, and quality assurance, and always ensure optimal utilization of personnel, machines, and materials.
In addition to pursuing my degree in industrial engineering, I am a trainee production area manager in Graphic Innovations, where I also did my apprenticeship. I am responsible for designing more efficient production processes so that the goods arrive at the right place at the right time.

What experience was the most useful to you?

The more departments I got to know, the better I understood the company as a whole. Each department brought a completely new experience, which was very beneficial to me.

Why did you choose ORAFOL?

The proximity to my home was an important factor. Also, I had heard only good things about ORAFOL from my family and relatives, some of whom also work here.

What do you like most about working here?

The fact that the company offers me excellent professional development opportunities and a bright future. But I also value the respectful atmosphere – the environment just feels right.

What is your favorite ORAFOL product?

We produce special innovative films with anti-graffiti coating, which you can easily wipe dirt from. It’s pretty impressive. It’s great fun to be involved in the production of these products.

What are you particularly proud of?

I am particularly proud that even as a work-study student, I can directly contribute to the development with my ideas and play an active role in the company’s success. Tackling problems together as a team, coming up with solutions and achieving results – that makes me really proud.

Hi, Mr. Stangel – or is it Mr. Stangel?

It’s especially funny when my brother meets someone new in the company, and then I meet the same person later. During the conversation, I soon realize that they’ve mistaken me for my brother. Sometimes he knows different people than I do, but then they say hi to me. It makes for some funny situations!

What is your job at ORAFOL?

I am currently working as Production Manager for the Adhesive Coating and Flexo Printing division in the Graphic Solutions division. My responsibilities include managing and monitoring the production processes in my area, which requires me to carefully coordinate the production factors of personnel, raw materials, and machinery. To this end, I am in constant contact with all related departments, such as Sales, Production Planning, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, and Research and Development, etc. My goal is to ensure smooth and timely production through close cooperation between all parties involved.

What experience was the most useful to you?

Before starting my studies, I completed an apprenticeship as a machine and plant operator at ORAFOL, which is particularly helpful in my current position. My degree started with a trainee program, where I changed departments every six months. So I got to know all the departments, including Purchasing, Human Resources, Production Planning and Production Management. Having this mix was hugely important for my skills and for understanding the interrelationships within the company.

Why did you choose ORAFOL?

I came across ORAFOL because it is the largest employer in the area and also because relatives of mine work here. Then one thing led to another.

What do you like most about working here?

For me personally, it’s the very good opportunities for further professional development. At the beginning of my training, I hadn’t expected that they would recognize my dedication and that I would advance so quickly in my career.

What is your favorite ORAFOL product?

I find the new spectral-selective sun protection films quite impressive, as they allow light to pass through the window they are applied to, but effectively block heat radiation.

What are you particularly proud of?

ORAFOL has grown quite rapidly in recent years. It makes me quite proud that I have contributed to this growth and that I am part of their success story.

A shift change of a different sort.

During our training, my brother and I once played a prank on our colleagues. We switched places on the machines, because we wanted to see if anyone would notice. It actually took quite a while before we were discovered. Back then we still had the same uniform, so it was even harder to tell us apart!
