The founding history of ORAFOL Europe GmbH dates back to the year 1808. Through transition and change as well as visionary growth and expansion strategies, ORAFOL Europe GmbH has developed into a successful global group of companies over the past decades.

1800s: The Very Beginning

1808:
The Wieblitz-Farbenwerkstatt is founded by the Wibelitz family and becomes the exclusive producer of postmark inks for the Kingdom of Prussia. One century later the company starts producing paints and lacquers.

1900–1989: Setting Roots in Oranienburg

1919: The Berlin location closes. The company relocates to Oranienburg in Brandenburg.

1957: The company is being semi-nationalized, and changes its name to Hannalin KG.

1960: The first self-adhesive reflective vinyls for traffic signs are being produced under the brand name MIKROLUX.

1972: The business/company is being fully nationalized and continues under the name VEB Spezialfarben Oranienburg.

1976: The first self-adhesive graphic products are manufactured and sold under the brand name ORACAL.

1990s

1990: The company changes its name to ORAFOL Klebetechnik GmbH.

1991: ORAFOL Klebetechnik GmbH is being privatised.

1995: The cornerstone ceremony for ORAFOL‘s new plant takes place in Oranienburg‘s industrial area.

2000s: Strong Global Growth

2000: Construction begin of the packaging and logistics center in northern Oranienburg.

2005: The cornerstone ceremony for the pro-duction facility ORACAL USA in Black Creek, Georgia takes place. The manufacturing plant is one of the most modern facilities of its kind in the Americas.

2005: The companies ORAFOL Klebetechnik GmbH and Transatlantic H. Bernhardt GmbH merge. Due to the increasing international focus, the company changes its name to ORAFOL Europe GmbH.

 

2010–Today

2011: The ORAFOL Group acquires the Reflexite Corporation, USA, and its worldwide subsidiaries.

2012: The former ORACAL A.Ş., Turkey, located in Istanbul becomes part of the ORAFOL Group, and operates under the name ORAFOL Turkey ever since.

2013:  ORAFOL Canada is established in Ontario Canada, as a distribution center for the Canadian market.

2016: ORAFOL Middle East in Dubai is founded, focusing on sales of retroreflective  and graphic materials in the Middle East.

2017: ORAFOL Europe GmbH acquires Rowland Technologies in Wallingford, Connecticut, USA.

2019: Acquisition of Kay Automotive Graphics, in Lake Orion, Michigan, USA.

2019: Foundation of ORAFOL India Pvt. Ltd. in Delhi, India with focus on sales of retroreflective materials.

2020: Foundation of ORAFOL RUS Reflective Solutions in Pskov, Russia.

2021: Acquisition of NUPRO Advanced TPU Films, in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, USA.

2022: Investment of 120 million euros in expansion and extension of US sites.
