ORAFOL Fresnel Optics contributes to new world record for Concentrator Photovoltaics (CPV)

A few weeks ago the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg announced a new world record for CPV modules. With an efficiency of 36.7 per cent, measured according to international standard, this value represents the highest efficiency ever measured on a photovoltaic module.

The primary optic – a lens plate made from silicone on glass (SOG) – was provided by ISE’s industrial partner ORAFOL Fresnel Optics. It is an array of 52 high-precision Fresnel lenses based on the design specifications from Freiburg for which ORAFOL – in addition to the lens plates themselves – also manufactured the necessary tools.
