ORAFOL Expands American Facility

03 Oct 2012

Last week, the ORAFOL Precision Technology Center (ORAFOL PTC) celebrated the grand opening of their expanded facility, increasing the ORAFOL New York state facility from 2.600 m² to over 7.000 m².

The ORAFOL Precision Technology Center produces specialty tooling used in the manufacture of microstructured optical films and plastic lenses. Most of the tooling goes through precision cutting and electroforming processes. These tools are shipped to ORAFOL and Reflexite Energy Solutions facilities around the world. The Precision Technology Center used to be a part of Reflexite Corporation, which was acquired by ORAFOL last year.

”The team at ORAFOL PTC has a great deal of trade knowledge built up with a high amount of seniority and tenure amongst the workforce. They have a strong apprentice program similar to our technical training programs in Germany, where junior employees learn the business in a systematic way. We are willing to invest here because we have confidence in the team and we see a bright future for the ORAFOL group with continued and growing demand for their products”, Dr. Holger Loclair, CEO of ORAFOL, stated.

The 4.400 m² addition will house new machinery and specialized processes to make the tooling used to manufacture specialized microstructures that have a wide variety of uses, including reflective materials, concentrator lenses used to produce electricity from sunlight; and lighting diffusers and brightness films used in computer display applications.

The grand opening of the expanded ORAFOL PTC facility was attended by New York State Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy.
